APPRENTICESHIP - TELECOMMUNICATIONS

In the late 1970's, Local 164 conducted various training courses on an "as needed" basis. This evolved into our current Telecommunications Apprenticeship program, including training in such areas as:

  • Structured Wiring Systems
  • Electronic Key Systems
  • IP Telephony
  • PBX Telephone Systems
  • Local Area Networks
  • Voice/Data Switching
  • Security Systems
  • CATV/CCTV
  • PC Training

  • Fiber Optics Networks
  • Foremanship Training
  • Integration Networks
  • OSHA 30
  • Sound Systems
  • Fire Stop Certification
  • EIA/TIA 568B standards
  • Telco Circuits
  • Aerial and Buried Cabling

This four-year, federally and state registered comprehensive telecommunication and system training program is one of the first of its kind in the nation. Students learn on the job under the supervision of experienced technicians while working for one of our signatory contractors, earning progressively increasing wages. In the evening, apprentices learn from field-expereinced instructors in classroom and lab settings.
