PROGRAMS

Today's electrical and telecommunications installations are very complex and highly sophisticated. Many of them involve sophisticated wiring … hidden from view when the job is completed. Faulty installations often prove to be extremely costly to correct - not to mention the serious damage and hazardous situations they could cause.

Well trained Local 164 electrical and telecommunications workers take pride in their work … not just in the final appearance and esthetics of the job, but in the electrical correctness and structural soundness of the systems they've installed!

The JATC is dedicated to instilling that pride in our union members … along with the know-how on which that pride is based. That know-how is provided through a variety of programs. Here's what we offer (follow the links to find out specific information about each:

• Our Journeyman classes offer a wide variety of skill improvement courses. Take a look at our class list … you can even send a registration request on-line!
• The Electrical Apprenticeship program offers five years of apprenticeship training and is administered jointly by Local 164 and the Bergen-Essex-Hudson Division of NECA.
• In the late 1970's, Local 164 conducted various training courses on an "as needed" basis. This evolved into our current Telecommunications Apprenticeship program … learn all about it in this section!
• For those not qualifying for either apprenticeship program … or for those non-union electricians seeking union membership, the JATC offers a wonderful alternative … our Residential, or "Small Works" program. Learn more about this three-year program.
